Obituary

Alice "Diane" Callahan passed away at the age of 87 on Jan 26, 2023 at Parker Senior Living after a long battle with dementia. Hospice made her last days comfortable, and she passed peacefully. Diane was preceded in death by her husband Paul Callahan, parents Kenneth and Glenna Coville, and her brother James Coville. She is survived by her three daughters and their spouses, Susan and Jimmie Baker, Jill and Lance Morrow, and Wendy and Matt Conger. Additionally, she had three beloved grandchildren, Brent Baker, Alexandria Conger, and Sydney Conger.

Diane was born in Wayne, Michigan on Feb 16, 1935 to Kenneth and Glenna Coville. She had an idyllic childhood growing up in a small town near a river. Her parents were both teachers and she enjoyed living on a lake or a farm during summer vacation. Diane was the quintessential "tomboy". She loved sports and being outside, following her older brother on all his exploits. She attended Wayne High School and afterward received her BA in teaching from Eastern Michigan Normal School (Currently Eastern Michigan University). After college, she and a group of friends came to Colorado on a camping trip. They stayed the summer and Diane met Paul Callahan who was attending the University of Colorado Boulder. They were married Aug 17th, 1959. Shortly after they married, Paul and Diane built a house near Parker. She began working at the YMCA and taught swimming. Later she became the physical education teacher at Northeast Elementary school in Parker Colorado.

Diane was a huge proponent of education, instilling this value in all her children: Sue, MS Engineering, Jill, PhD biochemistry and Wendy, MD in emergency medicine. Diane loved sports and games and was an excellent athlete participating in swimming, bowling, softball, football, ping pong, volleyball and golf. She continued to play volleyball and golf well into her 70's, earning medals in volleyball at the Huntsman Games and Senior Olympics. Her favorite games were crosswords, sudoku, board games, and bridge. Music was also a passion for Diane as she sang in the church choir, and played several musical instruments, piano, violin, trombone, flute, and piccolo. Paul and Diane loved to travel, and their travels took them throughout the US and foreign countries such as Canada, Mexico, Columbia, Costa Rica, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and most of Europe. In later years they particularly enjoyed European river cruises and cruises in the Mediterranean and Caribbean Islands. Diane supported her local community through the church guild and volunteering with the YMCA, Praying Hands horse therapy, and CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates).

Diane will live on through the wonderful memories of her family and friends. She will be interned at United Church of Christ Parker Hilltop alongside her husband.
