Anne L. Moser

Anne Moser (formerly Dalton) passed away on August 10, 2026. She is survived by her children, Zachariah Dalton, Courtney Dalton, and Katherine Young; her grandson, Elijah Larkin; and her siblings, Gregg Moser and MaryEllen Hansen. She is preceded in death by her brother, David Moser, and her parents, Don and Jean Moser.

The youngest of four, she grew up in the University Hills neighborhood of Denver. She attended Slavens Elementary, and later graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. She later earned both a bachelor’s, and master’s degree in special education from the University of Northern Colorado.

From a young age, Annie cultivated a rebellious streak that would follow her into adulthood. Mischief was an integral part of daily life, and despite the well-intentioned—and often sound—advice of her parents, siblings, and peers, Annie remained determined to march to the beat of her own drum. “There’s no one like Annie” was a common refrain among those who knew her best, uttered in equal parts adoration and exasperation. And while she could be difficult to pin down, she remained fiercely loyal to her family and friends throughout her life.

A beloved teacher and principal, she committed her career to serving low-income communities in the Denver Public Schools. Her talent for connecting with “difficult” students was a reflection of her ability to see past the circumstances of a person’s life, to the person inside. It was not uncommon to see her swarmed by students in the halls, all eager to say hello. She knew every student by name, and worked hard to cultivate a relationship with each individual. Her schools became more than just a place to uplift and educate children, and grew into community hubs where parents and students alike were encouraged to meet and strengthen the bonds of community.

She had a keen sense of justice and was never afraid to call out those seeking to take advantage of others. It was never something she did for recognition or praise, but something foundational to her personality. Whenever Annie witnessed injustice or saw someone being exploited, her laid-back and amiable nature gave way to a fearsome and formidable force. She could be incredibly articulate, witty, and resourceful — especially in defense of a friend.

Annie was always happiest outside; whether playing tennis, cycling, hiking, running, or sunbathing, she thrived with the sun on her shoulders and breeze in her hair. Physical activity was more than just a hobby, it was a way of life. Summers were spent primarily on the tennis court, or cycling up Vail pass - sometimes daily - during her annual trips. Many neighbors only knew her as the woman that was always running. Never one to shy away from a challenge, she completed the arduous ‘Ride the Rockies’ multiple times.

Annie lived with an independence and intensity that made her impossible to mistake for anyone else. She could be stubborn, mischievous, generous, infuriating, fiercely protective, and enormously fun. She leaves behind countless stories, a community made better by her presence, and a family who will feel her absence profoundly. For those who knew and loved her, the old refrain has never felt more true: there really was no one like Annie.
