Arthur W. Powers

Arthur W. Powers passed away peacefully on April 29, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 72 years old.

Born on November 17, 1953, Arthur was raised in Cold Spring Harbor and later Oyster Bay, Long Island, New York. He attended Eastwoods School and later Proctor Academy in New Hampshire, where he excelled as a cross-country runner and graduated as valedictorian of his class. He went on to study at the University of Denver, where his lifelong love for the mountains and the outdoors continued to grow.

Arthur devoted much of his professional life to healthcare and political advocacy. He was the co-founder and Managing Director of THRIVE!, A grassroots advocacy coalition working to expand affordable healthcare access, increase public health awareness, combat discrimination, and defend the rights of impacted communities. Through his work, Arthur touched many lives with his unwavering commitment.

In his younger years, he enjoyed competitive swimming and sailing. He was also a talented skier, passionate hiker, and devoted backpacker who spent many cherished years exploring and camping in the backcountry of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. Nature brought him peace, joy, and a sense of freedom that inspired him throughout his life.  Arthur had a laugh that one couldn’t help but to laugh along with especially when watching Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce Sherlock Holmes movies.

Arthur was deeply loved by his five siblings, Francis, Brian, Elizabeth, Christopher, and his late sister, Diana. He will be dearly missed.
