Obituary

Barbara Louise Test died on May 9, 2022. She was born on September 8,1940 to Lois Geise Test and Lawrence (Bud) Test in Mitchell, SD on a dairy farm and moved to a ranch in the Black Hills near Custer, SD at the age of 8.  After high school Barbara received 3 degrees at University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, CO.

She taught in the Denver area for 32 years beginning in 1962, mostly English, reading and special education at the middle school level. She continued her involvement in music (Choirs and piano), writing and studies in comparative religion, psychology, and philosophy. Barbara retired from full time teaching in 1994. After retirement she also became very involved in writing and preforming poetry throughout Colorado and the Black Hills, where she spent much of the summers at her cabin in Custer. Since 1994-2010 she also taught part time as a substitute teacher and in a program for adults returning to finish their high school diplomas.

Barbara was married twice (Riggs and Martin surnames) and has been happily single, returning to her maiden name (Test) since 1976. Her son, Sean Riggs born June 19, 1964 is a musician (rock drummer), music producer and an international financial consultant and recently moved from Los Angeles and Denver to Pittsburgh. Her granddaughter, Alaina Riggs, born February 8, 1990 completed high school in the Denver Area and has worked in restaurant management and internet technology. Her stepdaughter, Jaxzann Riggs, born July 28, 1958 owns and manages Mortgage Network in Denver.

Barbara is survived by Sean Riggs of Pittsburgh, PA, Alaina Riggs and Jaxzann Riggs of Denver, CO and siblings Marilyn Speer of Frederick, MD and Rosemarie Saville of Wilder, ID.  She was preceded in death by her father Lawrence Test (1905-1999) and mother Lois Test (1913-2007)

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Please check back. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Samaritan House Homeless Shelter at Catholic Charities , 6240 Smith Rd, Denver CO 80216 in Barbara's memory.
