Obituary

Barbara (Bobbie) Wright was born the day after Christmas in 1936 to Thomas W. Herb and Alma Herb (nee Mewborn) in Reading, Pennsylvania. She grew up there with her paternal grandparents nearby. She often visited her maternal grandparents on their tobacco farm in North Carolina, and it was there that her love for all creatures great and small was ignited.

After graduation from high school, Bobbie attended Duke University and earned her bachelor's degree in English/education. She earned a master's degree and a PhD from the University of Colorado. She taught literature at Colorado Women's College, and for The Women's Program at the University of Denver. She earned many awards. Upon her retirement, she taught classes for the Olli Program for Seniors at the University of Denver. Bobbie was beloved by her students and fellow colleagues. She maintained those close ties for many years.

Bobbie moved to Colorado in the late 1950's and made many lifelong friendships in those early years. She raised her children in Denver and lived in the Park Hill neighborhood continuously from 1969 to 2022. She had many friends in her community and was a long-time member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. She was a member of the Bloomsbury book club for close to 50 years—a group who treated one another as family She had a love for the mountains and the natural beauty of Colorado and spent her entire adult life here. Bobbie and Roy loved hiking and driving the back mountain roads and passes.

Bobbie gifted the appreciation of nature, literature, music, ballet, and theater to her children. She also taught them an abiding love for animals. Her home was a sanctuary to dogs, cats, fish, turtles, birds, a pet snake, pet mice and gerbils. She taught those around her to save, protect, and love animals unconditionally. She was well-known among neighborhood children as the best snack provider on the block.

Bobbie is survived by her husband, Clinical Neurologist, professor, and researcher, Dr. Roy R. Wright, her children Anne Hebert (Steve), Ellen Kerkhoff (Todd), and Edward (Ted) Kreutzer (Stephanie), and stepchildren Alice (John) Morrow, Sandra (Mark) Hurton, Carolyn Smith, and Roy R. Wright, Jr. Her sisters-in-law Mabel Gibson and Myrtle Floyd, two nieces, ten grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, and numerous friends and former colleagues also mourn her passing. She was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas L. Herb, and her stepmother Rachel Herb.
