Obituary

Bruce E. Hampson passed away in his home attended by his daughter Kate on August 24, 2024. He was 88 years old.

Bruce was born on October 24, 1935 in Paterson, New Jersey to Edna (Kornhoff) and Joseph Hampson. His mother passed away shortly after he was born, survived by her other two children Roger, Bruce's twin and Barbara (Bobbie), Bruce's older sister. As well as her husband Joseph. Bruce grew up in Allendale New Jersey where he enjoyed playing in the brook that ran through their property on Park Ave.

Bruce attended college at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken New Jersey, where he studied engineering. He served as the president of his fraternity Chi Psi and graduated in 1957. After college he joined the Air Force and was stationed at Goose Bay Labrador. Many fond memories were shared of his time there in the rugged wilderness.

In 1967 Bruce joined the Trane Company in New York City. His career with Trane spanned 5 decades. He worked as the General Manager. During his role as manager he believed first and foremost in taking care of his people. He was a strong, compassionate, firm, and inspiring leader.

Bruce married Margot O'Hara in 1973. They had 2 children Christopher and Kate who grew up in Weston CT, where the family relocated to in 1983.

After "retirement" Bruce became very active in the town of Wilton CT, where he had lived since the early 1990s. His many accomplishments for the town of Wilton included; Co-chairing the Wilton High School building project, Lead of the Miller-Driscoll School building committee, and serving as chairman of the Wilton Energy Commission (2007-2015). In 2015 Bruce earned the Wilton "Citizen of the Year" award for his work leading the Miller-Driscoll Building Committee. Other awards and accomplishments included the Connecticut Climate Change Leadership Award in 2010 and the Wilton Go Green Energy Effectiveness Award in 2015. He also served as the treasurer for the Lambert Common Condominiums, his beloved home in Wilton CT.

In the Fall of 2021, Bruce bravely relocated to Colorado at the age of 85 to be closer to his daughter Kate of Denver and his son Chris of Grand Junction. For the past 3 years he has enjoyed time spent with his family. He loved watching his grandchildren swim at the pool and spectating their various sporting events. Pop-Pop was their loudest and proudest cheerleader. Beyond all of his accomplishments as a leader and family man, Bruce was an avid wilderness man. Nature was a balm for him and he enjoyed sharing it with the people closest to his heart.

He shared his passion for fly fishing with his son Chris. Rafting down the Grand Canyon with close friends was a trip of a lifetime often reminisced. Canoe trips in Maine with his long time air force friend Kit were a yearly sojourn. Ski trips with his daughter Kate in the Vermont mountains and too many other adventures to count.

The loss of Bruce, Dad, Pop-Pop is immense for those that were lucky enough to be touched by his generous, kind, compassionate, supportive, and warm heart.

He is preceded by his Mother Edna, Father Joseph, Sister Barbara, and Brother Roger. His legacy lives on through his Daughter Kate Baumgartner (husband Matt), Son Dr. Chris Hampson (wife Martha), Grandsons Thomas Baumgartner, Edward 'Teddy' Baumgartner, Luke Hampson, and Granddaughter Jane Hampson.
