Bruce Lauzon Maxwell, 75, passed away peacefully at home on November 18, 2022. He was born on January 15, 1947 in Kansas City, MO to Lauzon and Marjorie Maxwell; he was raised in Independence, MO.

Bruce was an avid swimmer, a lifeguard, an Eagle Scout and a lifetime lover of architecture and grand adventures. He was a rock climber, kayaker, scuba diver and an artist. In 1972, he became a partner in his father's construction company Maxwell  & Associates and worked alongside his sister and brother-in-law in the family business. In July 1979, Bruce, his wife Julie and their business partners acquired the historic entertainment district Westport Square and operated the property through its heyday of the 1980's.

In the mid-1980's, Bruce set off to Colorado to assist the owner of the Aspen Highlands Ski area with rezoning the property for commercial development. In 1991, Bruce worked in California on the US installation of The Umbrella's project for the artist Cristo. In his later years, Bruce was involved with redevelopment projects with friends including part of the resurgence of the Crossroads district in Kansas City. He loved his family and friends and had a very close connection to the community at Unity Temple on the Plaza where he was a member of the Board for more than 20 years.

Bruce is survived by daughter, Christina Maxwell, son, Benjamin Maxwell, grandchildren, Everett and Kennedy Maxwell, and sister Betty(Joe) Maloney and their family.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, January 7, 2023, 1:00pm, at Unity Temple on the Plaza, 707 W. 47 Street, Kansas City, MO 64112 . Bruce was a believer in the power of the color red and wanted to invite everyone to wear something red for his service.
