Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bruce N. McGreal, a beloved son, brother, and friend, who left us on January 13, 2025, at the age of 75. Born in the Bronx, NY, on August 28, 1949, Bruce was raised in Bethel, CT, where he blossomed into a vibrant, creative spirit. As a brother, he looked out for me in his own way. As children growing up, we had our normal sibling "tiff's" however, his love and support were always unwavering, forging a strong bond that we cherished throughout our lives.

Bruce was a man of remarkable presence; though soft-spoken, he lit up any room he entered. His charisma was palpable, and his warmth made everyone feel immediately at ease. Friends and strangers alike found laughter in his company as he had a natural gift for humor. His artistic talent was evident in everything he touched, a trait undoubtedly inherited from our parents, who came from the entertainment industry.

He graduated from Bethel High School in 1968, setting the stage for his artistic journey. Bruce attended the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, where he continued to hone his skills and develop a deeper love for fine arts. His college experience was lively and filled with memorable adventures, including his time working at the Hippopotamus nightclub in the early 70s, a hub of social activity that he would often reminisce about with a smile. Oh, the memories we have! Music and dance were in his blood.

After college, Bruce's journey continued as he moved through various cities. He spent time in Denver, and eventually returned to Bethel, where he opened an art store with his good friend Tom Pagel. His love for floral design and decor became a hallmark of his identity. Soon later, Bruce joined me and our mother in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

In Florida, Bruce managed the Marlin Beach Hotel, where he masterfully connected with guests, including the fabulous Grace Jones. Their joyful encounters often led to nights filled with laughter and dancing by the pool, creating memories that will last forever. The joy of dancing was something Bruce cherished deeply, a bond he shared with our mother and me, often finding moments to dance in the kitchen or at elaborate parties, a legacy of our mother's and father's love for dancing.

Following our time in Florida, we relocated to Hyannis Port, Cape Cod, where Bruce and our mother opened a flower shop, before ultimately settling in Denver, CO. Bruce's floral design talents flourished as he worked at Lehrer's Flowers, and his exceptional social skills allowed him to cultivate a welcoming community. He loved hosting lavish holiday parties and entertaining friends, where no detail went unnoticed.

Bruce's artistic abilities ranged far and wide—from floral design and painting to cooking and collecting rare art deco and Asian antiquities. One of his favorite quirky traditions was singing "Happy Birthday" in his best Marilyn Monroe voice, bringing joy and laughter to every celebration.

Bruce will be remembered for his warmth, creativity, and laughter, and he leaves a legacy of love and cherished memories. He shared an unbreakable bond with our mother and me, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him, especially me. His memory will forever remain in our hearts. He truly was one of a kind!
