Casey
Allen
March 23, 1952 – February 25, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Casey Allen. She passed away peacefully after a long struggle with multiple illnesses. Casey's friends, family, dogs and home gave her great comfort. We will miss her intensity, her spirit and her love.
Casey spent her childhood in New York and Connecticut, and told many stories of outings to restaurants in NYC with her grandmother, and of great family vacations in Florida. She especially loved Longboat Key, FL., and always kept a beach motif scheme decorating her home, to remind her of those times. She left the East Coast to attend college at University of Denver and majored in International Relations, studying under the famous Dr. Josef Korbel. She settled in south Denver after college, and never left.
Casey loved art of all kinds, and worked many years in the printing business with graphics and ink colors. She also worked at a bank's customer service department, but her favorite job was at Mercer Place, a high end clothing consignment shop on South Broadway. There she could talk fashion all day, help customers assemble the just right outfits. She always told people, "accessories are the icing every cake needs!" She had a special penchant for jewelry and shoes, shoes, shoes.
Her other great love was DOGS. She celebrated every friend's new dog adoption much like a baby shower, with toys and decorations. She was devoted to her own dogs, and became active raising and showing her Saint Bernards, Delaney and Devon. They travelled to national AKC dog shows, and their trophies, ribbons and photographs held a special place of honor.
Her much-loved neighborhood of Platt Park began to change in the early 2000's, with the signature bungalows scrapped and replaced by duplexes and modern homes. At one point, she threatened a developer that she would handcuff herself to the fence until he fixed the building code violations. He did! Despite her declining health, she remained determined to stay in her home with her dog Izzy.
Casey will be remembered as someone who loved shopping, and talking in her back yard, with friends, dogs, and iced tea. Her last social event was outside on Boxing Day, with neighbors and friends from her block.
Many thanks to all the people who helped her as she struggled with medical needs; Dr. Megan Kirk, her devoted primary care doctor; Ryan Kaa, her physical therapist; Bob Aukerman and Chuck Mosteller, who both helped her with transportation, shopping and other support.
She is survived by her sister and brother in law Merry and Mick Long, her nephews and their families, and good friends. She ended phone calls by saying "I love you and appreciate you", and we return that sentiment to Casey as we say this final goodbye.
Private celebration of Casey Allen's life planned for later this spring.
