Obituary

  • Chris was born on August 9, 1943, in Stroud, OK, to Edward L. and Rohena Doris Ford. Chris was a great story teller who liked to recount her memories of growing up on a ten-acre farm in  Stroud, riding horses with her sister Sue and playing high school basketball.  She attended the University of Oklahoma and was an active Delta Gamma sorority sister. After graduation, she worked in advertising in the San Francisco Bay area, and one of her favorite stories was being in the audience at the infamous 1969 Rolling Stones concert at Altamont.

Chris had several careers. She moved to Denver in the 1970s and brought her public relations and journalism skills to non-profit organizations.  She was able to combine her passion for nature and design as editor of the Urban Design Forum, and was instrumental in the Imagine a Great City project during Federico Pena's tenure as mayor.  She continued her interest in the natural environment with work on the transformation of the Rocky Mountain Arsenal into a nature preserve; and on the Colorado Heritage Area project which established heritage areas in important Colorado landscapes.

In the early 2000s, she returned to school to earn an MA in Psychology, continuing her long standing interest in the works of C G Jung. She was a licensed psychotherapist with a specialty in sand play therapy, and was an active member of the Jung Society of Colorado.

Chris was a free spirit, and was quick witted, creative and a loyal friend. Her interests included adventurous travel, gardening, bird watching, and recently spending winters in Maui with her sister.

Chris was especially gifted at bringing people together to form personal or professional alliances, whether the goal was the betterment of the community, conservation of Colorado's beautiful places and historic sites, or individual spiritual and psychological growth. The bonds of her friendships were many and varied.

Chris is survived by a sister, Carolyn Sue Jhung of Denver, and two cousins: Constance Ford Mungle of Oklahoma City and Richard Ferguson of Scituate, MA, and many, many friends. A memorial reception will be held Wednesday, August 10, 2022 from 10-Noon at Grant Humphreys Mansion, 770 Pennsylvania Street, Denver, CO 80203.  Anyone wishing to make a memorial donation in her name may contribute to Oglala Lakota College (PO Box 490, Kyle SD, 57752) or a charity of their choice.
