David E. Cooper: A Life of Service and Community

David Edward Cooper, born October 18, 1944, in Shamokin, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 30, 2024 at Holly Heights Care Center. David's journey through life took him across Pennsylvania, New York, North Carolina, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Illinois, ultimately finding his true calling and community in Denver, Colorado.

David was a graduate of Wheaton College and Denver Seminary, where he cultivated a deep commitment to service and ministry. His career was marked by unwavering dedication to supporting diverse individuals seeking emotional and spiritual support, troubled youth and the HIV community in Denver. As an advocate for those living with HIV, he worked tirelessly with the Colorado AIDS Project (CAP) and the Regional AIDS Interfaith Network (RAIN), participated in countless AIDS walks and served as a compassionate counselor and minister across the metro Denver area. David's contributions to the community extended beyond his professional life. He was an integral part of urban Denver, residing in Capitol Hill and frequenting local spots such as Racines, Coors Field and, of course, Red Rocks and other music venues. An extrovert at heart, David thrived in the company of others, while also cherishing moments of solitude at home and at the St. Benedict's Monastery in Snowmass.  Born to Ed and Betty Cooper, David grew up with a strong sense of family and community. Though he had no children of his own, he played a significant role in the lives of many, officiating at the weddings of multiple family members and friends, bringing joy and unity to their lives. His love for reading, sharing coffee and meals with family and friends, and attending Rockies games were among cherished pastimes. His legacy is one of kindness, service, and an unwavering commitment to helping others. He leaves behind a community deeply touched by his presence and a family that will forever hold him in their hearts. A testament to the power of compassion and dedication, David's impact on the Denver community and beyond will be remembered fondly and with gratitude by many.

He is survived by a sister, Amy, brothers Paul and Tim, their spouses, children and grandchildren, cousins and extended family across the country.  A reception in David's honor will be held at Denver's Sixth Avenue Church of Christ on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 1:00 PM.
