David Alan Hall, 78, passed away on March 28, 2026, after a long illness. His family had been by his side throughout the day.
Dave, as he was known, was born on September 7, 1947, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Lee and Cleo Hall. As a child, he loved visiting his grandparents and extended family, and getting into mischief with his younger brothers, Steve, Tim, Mike, and Tom.
After graduating from St. Francis High School in 1965, Dave joined the United States Air Force. He served in Vietnam and Thailand with the 82nd Airborne. During this time, he was married to Deborah Wright, and in 1968, he was thrilled to come stateside to be present for the birth of his first child, Jennifer (Jenny).
Following his honorable discharge, Dave lived in San Diego before moving to Colorado in 1972. He earned his bachelor's degree and began a career dedicated to helping others, working as a social worker for Adams County. He later worked at the Denver Museum of Natural History, where he met his future wife, Jane Hahn.
Dave and Jane were married in 1982 and resided in the Denver area. They welcomed their son, Benjamin, in 1983, and their daughter, Sarah, in 1992. Dave went on to serve for 22 years as a federal civil servant in various roles, including training VISTA volunteers.
After retiring in 2007, Dave found joy in the simple things—cooking, feeding his beloved backyard squirrels, and spending time with his dog, Rosy. When Jane retired in 2014, they enjoyed traveling together and spending time with their family and friends in the area.
Dave is survived by his wife, Jane Hall, his children; Jennifer Brown and her husband, Travis Brown, Benjamin Hall, and Sarah Thayer and her husband, Brandon Anderson-Thayer; his beloved grandchildren, Brandon, Ashlynn, Stiorra, and Kai; and his brothers, Steve, Mike, and Tom Hall.
He will be remembered for his sharp sense of humor, his incorrigible personality and a caring spirit that those closest to him were lucky enough to know.
Private burial at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, Denver, CO. A Celebration of Life will be held later this summer for Dave. Information will be forthcoming.
