David, Also known as "Chief" by his many friends, passed away in Denver, Colorado on May 10, 2022. He was born in Globe, Arizona on June 1, 1966, a member of the San Carlos Apache Native American tribe, was adopted at the age of eight months by the Kampman family, who then resided in Fort Lee, New Jersey, and later in Colorado.
David spent most of his life in the Denver area. He was a 1984 graduate of Arvada High School where he was a standout player in basketball, his favorite sport. He also loved bowling and pool.
David worked mostly in retail and hospitality. Most recently, he worked as a cook and bartender at Sam's Bar and Lounge in Denver. He was a natural at bartending, being a friendly guy who thoroughly enjoyed being around people.
For many years David helped out at the Greek Festival, held annually at the Assumption of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Metropolis Cathedral complex in Denver. He also made numerous treks deep into the Rockies to harvest Christmas trees, outings he loved.
David is survived by his mother Willa Kampman of Arvada, Colorado; his sister Karen Panter and her husband Mark of Laramie, Wyoming; his brother Eric Kampman and his wife Thea Kelley of Albany, California; his aunt Bobbi Yoder of Billings, Montana; and his large extended family. He is also survived by his four much-loved nephews Scott Panter, Evan Panter, Lucas Kampman, and Oliver Kampman. He was preceded in death by his father Thomas Kampman.
Chief's family would especially like to thank the crew at Sam's Bar and Lounge, most notably Sarantos (deceased) and Aristides Maniatis, for being such great bosses, co-workers, and friends.
Celebration of life may be held at a later date. Memorials in David's memory can be made to the Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg, Colorado, www.wildanimalsanctuary.org , a place he visited numerous times with family, or to the Assumption Cathedral in Denver, Colorado, www.assumptioncathedral.org/home , and please specify the Basketball Program.
