David Beck Mays, son of Josephine (Hill) and James Mays was born March 3,1949 and left this earth July 20,2022. David attended Whittier Elementary, Smiley Jr. High, and East High School. He ultimately finished his education at Southern Colorado University with a BS Degree in Engineering and went on to become an Engineer and Business Analyst for XCEL Energy for 42 years.  David was a co-founder of CABPES: The Colorado Association of Black Professional Engineers and Scientists.  He Designed their logo, which they still use to this day.

David's love for Colorado kept him here his entire life but that did not deter he and Terry from travelling worldwide. David and Terry met in 1977 and were married in 1992. She fast became one of his lifelong loves along with baseball caps, sports, travel, music, science and fast cars. They spent 45 years together.

He survived by his wife, daughter Dr. Traci Knapper, his brother's grandchildren Kajae Barnett and K'Yana Barnett, as well as a host of cousins and friends. He is predeceased by his parents and brother Robert.

Services will be held Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at 11:00am at Shorter Community AME Church, 3100 Richard Allen Ct., Denver CO 80205.
