Obituary

Dianne Lyn Cherry passed away peacefully in her husband's arms on September 16, 2022. She was a woman much adored and admired; a gentle woman of Christian character. Dianne was born in Smith Center, Kansas, to Edward Kuhlmann and Marjorie McElderry on August 27, 1946, the eldest of three children. She loved living on the farm and spending time with her dad on his John Deere tractor. After high school, Dianne moved to Colorado to attend business school while living with her aunt and uncle. This is the time her life's journey started to change.
A handsome man in a black leather jacket, his red hair slicked back strolled into her path. Although she wasn't sure about this city boy at first, he convinced her to marry him in 1967 and stole her heart for the next 55 years. In 1968, Dianne left work to be a mom to her only daughter, but as time progressed, she was soon a "mom" to many. Whether she was running all the cheerleaders around or sitting in the bleachers at a game, kids were drawn to her to talk with.

Beyond being a mom, Dianne was a supporting, caring wife that found time to attend Ray's softball games, keep the scorebook, and correct the umpires on occasion. She accompanied him to various meetings, including travel throughout the US for some. Dianne believed in the scripture on being a wife and gratefully applied it to their marriage.

She was never judging and always willing to listen, and anything told to her in confidence stayed that way. This carried forward to every place she worked from Huron Junior High School to Larry Miller Nissan. People came to her to talk through problems, to get advice, or to fix wardrobe malfunctions - so many knew her grace, kindness, and love that only a mom can give. But as much as she loved being a mom to her daughter, her heart was overflowing for her grandsons and great-granddaughters - they are her greatest legacy.

Dianne joined her parents, son-in-law, and many family members in Heaven and leaves her husband, Raymond, daughter, Lori Pennington, Patrick, Vanessa, Audrey Mary, and MacKenzie Dianne Pennington, Tyler, Jayden, and Amelia Ann Pennington, Travis Pennington, Debra Van Sickle, Kent and Kathy Kuhlmann, and numerous nieces and nephews to continue her legacy.
