Edward C.
Schmidt
August 28, 1937 – August 11, 2024
Ed was born on August 28, 1937 to Jake and Eva Schmidt. He entered eternal life on August 11, 2024 at the age of 86 after a courageous battle with cancer. Ed grew up in Longmont Colorado and spent many summers working at his uncle Clarence's ranch baling hay. His first marriage to Margaret Tarr, mother of his two sons, ended in divorce. He then met Sandy Godioz, and married the love of his life on May 25, 1973. They made their home in the Denver area with their combined families.
Ed attended Central School, grades k-8, and graduated from Longmont High School in 1955. He was an accomplished musician and member of the high school concert band where he played the string base, cello and tuba. Ed received 4 medals from the Colorado Music Association – Solo Festival (Orchestra), 3 medals from the Band Festival, and toured with a dance band called the Rhythm Airs.
Ed served his country as a member of the National Guard. He worked in the retail industry for many years as a department/store manager in various companies including F. W. Woolworth, K-Mart and Montgomery Wards. Ed was also a very talented carpenter and jack-of-all trades and owned every imaginable tool you can think of, sometimes several of each.
Ed and Sandy traveled the world for many years. One of his favorite destinations was Germany. He always said their apple strudel was "out of this world". Ed loved watching old reruns of Gilligan's Island, Mash, McHale's Navy and various westerns, and enjoyed gardening in his yard where he tended to 50+ rose bushes. He and Sandy also loved to camp in the Colorado Rockies. Ed definitely had a sweet tooth, his favorite dessert was pie…hot or cold!
Ed is survived by his two sons Kevin (Fara) and Brian, 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Jan Jester (Randy), and cousin Dolly. He was the loving godfather of Brad Jester. Ed is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, loving wife Sandy, daughter Lisa, daughter-in-law Linda, granddaughter Azurae, and sister Clara. Over the years, Ed had many dogs he adored, and you can be sure they were all anxiously awaiting his arrival.
The entire family would like to express their unending gratitude to Gene Schmidt, grandson, and partner, Marissa Gruner, for the love, compassion and excellent care they provided to Ed in the family home for approximately the last 7 months. It meant the world to Ed to be able to go home and spend quality time with his grandson. The family would also like to thank the staff and the Dignity Hospice care team at the Brookdale Assisted Living Facility, Brighton CO, for their amazing care during the last 6 days of his life.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Denver Dumb Friends League or a charity of your choice.
We can only imagine how excited Sandy was when she saw her beloved husband walk thru the heavenly gates exactly one year and one day since she was called home. They now walk hand-in-hand as they begin the new chapter of their eternal journey…together forever! Rest in peace, dear Ed, we love you, we miss you, and you will always be a shining light in our hearts.
