Elizabeth A.
Hurt
January 2, 1943 – November 6, 2024
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Elizabeth "Betty" Delvers, Beverly, Hurt on November 6, 2024. Betty was born in Brooklyn, NY to Albert John and Ruth Victoria (nee Kennely). She attended Levittown Memorial H.S, St. John's University, and Colorado State University where she graduated with a master's degree in Geology. She went on to become an Earth Science teacher for the Cherry Creek School District, first at Cherry Creek East Jr. High, Cherry Creek and Smoky Hill high schools, plus EPIC Geology Field Studies.
She left teaching to run Beverly Orchards with her husband of 13 years, Chuck Beverly, in Palisade, CO. Chuck tragically died in a helicopter crash and Betty sold the orchard. She moved back to Denver to be near friends where she later met and married Bob Hurt, whom she divorced.
Betty was an avid outdoor person loving camping, hiking and river rafting. She loved taking her nephew, Michael, camping and fishing and sharing all her knowledge of the Rocky Mountains, which she dearly loved. She also loved to travel having gone to Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
She was blessed with writing and teaching skills that carried her throughout life. Betty possesses a keen sense of humor that she would share in yearly letters to friends and family that were a synopsis of a past year. We would all "wait with bated breath" to receive her letters she wrote with wit and hilarious aplomb. We still have some of those cherished letters today!!
Betty lived life to the fullest, enjoying a glass of wine and a good laugh. Her laugh is something we will all miss. One of her favorite quotes, from Anthony Quinn in Zorba the Greek was: "Life is trouble. Only death is not. To be alive is to undo your belt and "look" for trouble." We have no doubt Betty is enjoying a glass of wine with her late husband Chuck and her sister Ruth, toasting a beautiful Colorado sunset. May they be flying high in that mountain sky!
She is survived by her brother Pete (Bonnie) of Georgia, sister, Cathy of Aurora, CO., brother James, (Diane) of Oregon, Brother-in-Law, Joseph LaCascia of Richmond Hill, N.Y., nieces and nephews, Ann (Ron), Laura (Russ), Amy (Dave), Vicky (Stephen), Michael, Justin and Lindsey. Great grand nieces and nephews, Sidney, Alex, Julia, David, Stan, Rebecca and Drew and great-great nephew Samuel. Betty is preceded in death by parents, Albert John and Ruth Victoria (nee Kennely), husband Charles and sister Ruth E. LaCascia, maternal grandparents James and Elizabeth Kennely and paternal grandparents Peter and Catherine Delvers.
A memorial service will be held at a later date with her family who live out of town, and of course anyone is welcome to attend. A "Toast to Life" gathering will be held in her honor on Friday, December 6, 2024, from 3:00pm - 5:00pm at the old dive she frequented with her teaching friends, The Piper Inn, 2251 S. Parker Rd, Denver, CO 80231, In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Betty's name to a charity of your choice.
