Euza De
Freitas
August 16, 1935 – November 30, 2023
Euza de Freitas 1935 - 2023 Euza de Freitas, aged 88, died of natural causes on November 30, 2023. Euza was born in Itajaí, Santa Catarina, Brazil to Gumercindo and Regina. She married and had twins in Curitiba, Parana. When the twins were three and she was 8 months pregnant with their third child, Euza and her family immigrated to Rhode Island.
Throughout the many moves in her life- from Brazil to Rhode Island, Rhode Island to Arizona, Arizona to California, and finally, from California to Colorado, with a smile that could light up a room and a personality to go with it, Euza was always making friends, many whom she remained close with throughout her life. She was kind, generous and thoughtful and often considered everyone's comfort and needs before her own, even in her final months when her own comfort was diminishing. In her mid-fifties, her love of cooking and sharing meals with family and friends inspired her to attend the Scottsdale Culinary Institute. After she graduated from the program, she moved to Los Angeles to start a new career as a private chef.
Euza loved music and dance, especially the Argentine Tango, which she danced into her 80s. In recent months, when she could no longer dance on her feet, hearing a familiar Samba would bring that beautiful smile to her face and she would move her body, seated in her chair or bed, in time with the music. She also adored children, and when she decided to end her career as a private chef, she became a nanny to several beloved children including Emma (mom, Julie), who were like family to her.
She is survived by her children, Gisah (David Schumacher) de Freitas, Fabio (Pasia Lee) de Freitas and Ionah (Hugh O'Neill) de Freitas, her grandchildren, Tizita Schumacher and Christine and Jade Cha, her brother Gumercindo (Lea), sister-in-law Norma, beloved cousin Luizita and all her loving nieces and nephews. Euza is preceded by her partner Otto Brandt, her parents, her grandson Jack Beckett O'Neill and her brother Elbio.
May Euza be remembered not only for the fierce love she showered so generously on her family and friends and for the generosity of spirit she showed everyone she encountered, but also for her courage and tenacity in the face of adversity and challenge.
