Obituary

Gayle Jeanette Roxberg Barrett passed away on August 10, 2023 at the age of 91. Gayle was born in Omaha and grew up in Omaha and Lincoln Nebraska. As a girl her family visited Colorado regularly and she spent summers in Empire, where she fell in love with the majestic Colorado Rocky Mountains.  She graduated high school in Lincoln, then attended Western College in Ohio that prepared her for the University of Nebraska program in Pharmacy, where she graduated in 1954. Gayle was a trail blazer as one of only three women pharmacy graduates that year.  While at the University of Nebraska, Gayle met William Barrett from Grand Island Nebraska, and they were married in Lincoln in June of 1954.

Gayle followed William to Salt Lake City, Utah, where she worked as a Pharmacist while William pursued a PhD in Physics and Math at the University of Utah.  The couple then moved to New Jersey, where William worked at Bell Laboratories, and their children, Laura and Leonard were born in 1958 and 1960. They later moved to Allentown Pennsylvania, where Gayle raised their family while continuing to work as a Pharmacist and William was a professor at Muhlenberg College and later at Lehigh University. Both William and Gayle were fond of classical music and opera and enjoyed going to New York City for symphony and ballet performances. Gayle played the violin in several local orchestras and sang in the St. John's Lutheran church choir.

Gayle and William were divorced in 1976, and when the children left home, Gayle moved to her beloved Colorado in 1978 and bought a condominium near Cheesman Park in Denver. She worked as a Pharmacist at several places and settled at Gates Rubber Corporation in their Denver clinic where she filled patient prescriptions until retiring in 1997. Gayle never remarried and enjoyed her active single life in Denver as well as traveling, she especially loved going to tropical islands. A devout Christian, she attended many different churches and became a member at Park Hill United Methodist Church. She was involved in many societies, including the American Association of University Women, and Sigma Kappa Sorority, and was always able to contribute to numerous charities. She especially enjoyed the friendship of disabled people and helping them live better lives through the Denver Tryad group, and she was also a wizard at Scrabble.

Gayle was preceded in death by her parents Lucille and Carroll Roxberg, her sister Carolyn Roxberg Jordan, and her granddaughter Heather Faeo. She is survived by her son Leonard Barrett who lives in Gettysburg Pennsylvania, her granddaughter Lena Barrett who lives in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, and her daughter Laura Barrett Faeo who lives in Kenai Alaska.
