Gerald E.
Henderson
August 14, 1938 – April 3, 2023
Gerald Eugene Henderson of Denver, Colorado, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2023 surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He was born August 14, 1938 in Louisiana, Missouri to Albert E. Henderson and Blanche Louise Turner. Jerry grew up in Louisiana, Missouri, a town on the Mississippi river northeast of St. Louis where he was an outstanding athlete and student. He received a master's degree in petroleum engineering from Missouri School of Mines in Rolla, Missouri and went on to enjoy a long career as a petroleum engineer and oil & gas executive in Texas, Louisiana and Colorado.
For the last twenty years of his life, he continued to teach courses on oil and gas acquisition in London, Houston, and Calgary. A lifelong golfer, he was a member of Cherry Hills Country Club where he enjoyed playing in tournaments with his fellow "GOMs" (Grumpy Old Men). Jerry was an avid world traveler. He also loved all things literary – teaching literature classes at OLLI at DU, attending and contributing to Stories on Stage at the DCPA, as well as actively participating in book clubs. He was an outstanding vocalist and enjoyed singing with different groups, including a barbershop quartet, and performing on stage in musicals.
Jerry will be remembered as a wonderful brother, husband, father, and grandfather. His grandchildren have many happy memories of attending performances at the DCPA, exploring museums, and traveling. In his final years, he was a devoted and loving caregiver for his wife Susan. He'll be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Suzanne Kelly Henderson; daughters Stacey (John) Pollard and Amy Mercier (Bill Demyanovich); stepsons Scott (Tracie) Kelly, Brian (Caren) Kelly and Matthew (Lisa) Kelly; his sister, Jane Harris, niece Laura Lambert, and grandchildren Lindsay and Daniel Mercier, Alexandra Wilkins, Christopher and Claire Pollard, and Connor and Cameron Kelly, Carter and Mitchell Kelly, and Campbell and Cooper Kelly. Jerry was predeceased by his first wife, Angie Henderson and second wife Carolyn Hamil Henderson.
