Obituary

Georgie Lydia (Gigi) Stone Hooker, died peacefully at Hilltop Reserve Senior Living, Denver, Colorado, Wednesday, July 10, 2024, surrounded by her daughter, Tracey Hooker, son-in-law, Wayne Fields and grandson, Sam Fields.

Gigi was Director of the Altar Guild and served many years on it at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Denver, Colorado. She was an athlete playing tennis into her 80's, race walking competing in her age group, and she played soccer. She was an avid bridge player and could complete the NY Times crossword in one day!

Gigi was an air force brat, born at March Air Force Base in Riverside, California to parents, Lt. General Charles B Stone III and Ama Stone. She lived all over the U.S. and Hickam AFB, O'ahu Hawaii. Graduated from Oakwood High School class of 1951 in Dayton Ohio, and attended Miami University of Ohio where she met her husband, John Primrose Hooker. They were married at Bowling Air Force Base, Washington DC, June 1954. She was widowed when John Hooker died suddenly, November 23, 1964. Gigi exuded strength and resilience, having raised three children on her own.

Known for her bawdy wit, quick come-backs and telling it like it is, Gigi believed in following the rules ONLY when she wanted to. She asked direct, sometimes withering questions and she didn't take any "guff" from anyone.  Gigi was an office manager at a law firm where she wore high-heels so she could be "taller than the lawyers".

Gigi had a genuine interest in her family, which was most important to her and was loved by all who had the pleasure of spending time with her. To sum up, one of her cousins said, "Gigi was the epitome of California Cool, beautiful and breezy, irreverent and independent, hilarious, nonchalant and fun".

Gigi spent the last 30 years in Denver, Colorado, where she called the mountains "her beach", having been a Southern California transplant to Colorado.

Gigi is survived by her sons John Lloyd Hooker, Charles Stone Hooker and her daughter, Tracey Ann Hooker, and ten grandchildren: Jonathan Hooker, Catherine Hooker, Gregory Hooker, Elizabeth Hooker, Stephen Hooker, Tristan Hooker, Liam Hooker, Lucasz Hooker, Max Fields, Sam Fields and two great-grandchildren, Nathan Hooker and Georgie Lydia Fields, with two more on the way.

Also survived by her brother, Col. Charles B. Stone IV, sister Claudia Stone Avitabile, and first cousin Dianne Moore Bret Hart, with whom she was very close. She had many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews and extended family who all loved and admired her.
