Gordon W.
Henderson
May 18, 1935 – March 14, 2026
Gordon (AKA Gordy, Gord, The Gordon Meister, GW of the Highest H, Bumpa) was born in Chicago May 18, 1935. His family moved to Ohio, where he graduated from Miami of Ohio (he always loved the marching band dotting the i)
He then travelled west, serving in the Navy on the USS Orleck as Lieutenant. As luck would have it, the admiral was next door neighbors with the grandmother of one Varian Benjamin, and the two were set up on a blind date. Success! Vee and Gordon were married in La Jolla in 1960.
After completing graduate school at Berkley, Gordon was hired by Amoco Oil Company and was sent to the ends of the earth: Midland Texas. Two children followed. The family then happily moved to Colorado, where Gordon continued his career as a geologist, sitting wells and finding oil. In retirement, he served as treasurer at Christ Church Denver. After moving to Holly Creek in 2016, he worked with the HOA and was devoted to spotting the ducks along the creek.
Gordon enjoyed the great outdoors, climbing "Fourteeners", skiing, camping and had a life long love of the ocean. He was an Anglophile (to the Queen, God Bless her) loved maps, travel and growing roses and tomatoes. Gordon indulged in a nightly glass of wine, and in the true spirit of an engineer, heated the wine in the microwave 7 seconds, to the perfect temperature.
Gordon died peacefully March 14, 2026 after a courageous battle with dementia and Parkinson's Disease.
He is survived by his wife Vee, daughter Liz (Thomas) son Michael and brother Michael (Sue). Gordon is proceeded in death by his parents, Doc and Mary and his granddaughter Chloë.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 21, 2026 at 10:00 am at Christ Church Denver, 2950 South University Blvd. Denver, CO 80210. Burial at Fort Logan National Cemetery will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates donations to Parkinson's Association of the Rockies or Christ Church Denver in Gordon's name.
