Obituary

Harriette (Grove) Rubenstein passed away June 8, 2025. She was born on June 11, 1927 to Thor and Clara Grove on a farm near Climax, Minnesota. She was their ninth child (two died in infancy). All of her siblings are deceased.

She enjoyed growing up on the farm and attended a one-room country school through 8th grade, then she rode the bus to Climax High School. After graduation she moved to St. Paul and attended Rasmussen Business School. Her first job was at Engineering Research Associates, then she moved to San Diego, California and worked for W. R. Hawn who bought and developed a 1,000 acre ranch which is now Rancho Bernardo, California. She was transferred to the main office in Dallas, Texas, where Mr. Hawn bought another 1,000 acre ranch which is now Brookhaven Country Club.

After ten years her desire to be near her family brought her back to St. Paul, Minnesota, but one winter was all she could endure so in September, 1967, she moved to Denver, Colorado, where she joined the Colorado Mountain Club and made many friends while hiking, skiing, snowshoeing and traveling. The beauty of the wildflowers spurred her love of photography, and she met Sam Rubenstein who was a geologist, so he studied rocks while she photographed wildflowers, they married and had many delightful years together, Arizona in the winter and Colorado in the summer.

Harriette joined St. Paul Lutheran English Evangelical Lutheran Church when she arrived in Denver, and enjoyed meeting new friends and serving in many capacities for numerous years. This was a very rewarding part of her life. She worked for various engineering companies in Denver.

She is survived by her stepdaughter, Karin Bruce (John Tothill), her stepson, Jay Rubenstein (Sarah Santilli), step grandchildren, Jesse and Kayla, and nine nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Paul English Evangelical Lutheran Church would be appreciated or to a charity of your choice.
