Homer L.
Hancock
November 18, 1936 – September 4, 2022
Homer Lee Hancock was born in Billings, Montana, the only child of Wilfred and Wanda Slusher Hancock. He graduated from Billings High School and during his spare time, he set pins at the bowling alley, delivered papers, picked cherries in Utah, worked at the Billings Trap Club, and developed a love for bird hunting.
Homer graduated from the University of Denver in 1958. Shortly after graduation, he began a 40-year career with the Colorado National Bank Trust Department, a job he was passionate about. His career culminated in being President of the Trust Real Estate division.
In 1957, Homer met the love of his life, Treva Reuszer, at a potluck at Trinity Church in Denver. They were married on July 11, 1959, and together enjoyed 63 years of skiing, biking, hiking, and traveling the world. They took a little time off from their adventures to raise 3 sons, Andy, Phil, and Steve.
Homer was President of the Rural Appraisers Association, member of Kiwanis, member of the Colorado Trapshooting Association, youth leader and member of the board of Jefferson Avenue Methodist Church, member of Arvada United Methodist Church, and a Founder of Mergs Unlimited, a hunting lease he enjoyed for 45 years.
Homer was an avid bird hunter whether it was hunting ducks on the Platte River, doves in Mexico, or pheasants in South Dakota. Homer also enjoyed competitive trapshooting, and at one point was one of the best in the state. He grew up fishing in Montana with his father, a passion he passed on to all his sons. However, Homer's greatest pleasure in life was being with friends and family.
Homer is survived by his wife, Treva Reuszer Hancock of Arvada, Colorado; son, Andy (Christine) Hancock - Littleton, Colorado (grandchildren, Virginia and Cole); son, Phil Hancock - Livingston, Montana (grandchildren, Tyler and Henry); son, Steve Hancock - Arvada, Colorado (grandchildren, Hunter and Rachel and great-grandchild, Axzl); as well as former daughters-in-law, Margaret Hancock, and Ida Hancock. Homer was proceeded in death by his parents, Wilfred and Wanda Slusher Hancock.
A Celebration of Homers Life will be held Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 2:00pm at Arvada United Methodist Church, 6750 Carr St., Arvada, Colorado 80004.
In lieu of flowers or memorials, Homer's wish was for you take your family or loved ones to dinner, raise a glass and toast to "Shinin' Times" – Homer's favorite expression for good times with family and friends.
