Obituary

James J. Duran (Jim), devoted husband, father, son, brother, mentor, leader, and friend, passed away on Saturday, April 23rd, 2022. Jim was 53 years young.

Jim was a proud husband, father, and son. Often, Jim would tell anyone within earshot about his wife, sons, and parents. He loved without reserve and gave of himself without hesitation. He adored being with his wife, whether bowling, or hitting the lake "on the boat," Jim took his family life as not only serious, but as his everything. While Jim was also known for being incredibly passionate for his family, he was just as passionate about his work as a leader and mentor.

He excelled in the exacting nature his work required, with a bright future ahead of him. He made friends wherever he would go and earned the respect of so many of his friends, subordinates, peers, and leaders. Jim was described as a "badass" at whatever he set himself out to do, and would advance faster than anyone else ever has, whether it be his work, bowling, or a simple game of corn hole, he always set out to be the best. There simply wasn't anything that Jim couldn't do.

Jim will also be remembered for his passion of music, sports (Broncos and Avalanche) and the love for his country. There was nothing he liked more than spending time with good friends and family alike. His laughter, gift of gab (story telling) would naturally gravitate you towards him and often silly antics that would for a moment, make you laugh so hard, it would help you forget everything. Jim was always a good listener as well. It did not matter the problem or plan you had to share, he would listen and whether right or wrong, he always provided you with some kind of a solution.

Until the very end, Jim was a giving, caring and selfless soul. He shared his passion for his work and country through mentoring others and would do anything for anyone. Smart and a perfectionist, almost to a fault, Jim was very precise and would describe himself as occasionally being "stubborn"…

He is survived by his loving wife, Marlo Duran, his sons, Jesse Duran, Steven Duran, Justin Duran (Valeria and granddaughter, Violet), and his mother, Victoria Shepherd, father, Steven Shepherd, mother-in-law, Jean Raymer and father-in-law, Steven Cosby along with his three sisters: Lori Duran, Sarah McCartney (Andrew), and Jessica Shepherd, including a host of beloved cousins, aunts and uncles.
