Obituary

Jean Eleanor Moser, long time resident of Denver, Colorado. Beloved wife of Donald Joseph Moser, devoted mother of Gregg Moser, MaryEllen Hansen, David Moser (deceased), and Ann Dalton. Grandmother of 8, great grandmother of 4 (one deceased), died in her sleep, at home with her family. She was born in Denver, Colorado to Eleanor Rehm and Robert Bon Kunse. She was raised with her brother Robert Bon (deceased) and sister Joan (living) in the Denver neighborhood of Bonnie Brae. She attended Asbury Elementary, Grant Junior High and South High School. In 1947, Jean graduated with honors from the School of Nursing at the University of Denver. She also received one of the highest scores on her state nursing boards. Despite her father's protests, Jean moved to Los Angeles and worked at a hospital where the popular actor, Mickey Rooney, had a son born while she was on duty.

Jean met her future husband, Donald Moser, in a college chemistry class. He was so taken with her "chemistry" that during a lab he asked if he could clean her test tubes. They were married on December 27, 1948 at the former St. John's Catholic Church located on 6th Avenue and York St. At the displeasure of Jean's parents, she converted from a Lutheran to a Catholic and remained married for 73 years. Her parents never fully forgave the couple. The newly married couple moved to Portland, Oregon where Don taught high school biology and Jean worked as a nurse in a nearby hospital. A year later, they returned to the Denver area to purchase their first house, across from Washington Park at 455 S. Franklin Street, where they started a family. They moved to University Hills, Littleton and settled in Southern Hills to raise four children, two boys and two girls. Tragedy struck years later, when David, the youngest son, succumbed to Lymphoma at the age of 53. Two months later, to the day, David's daughter was paralyzed and his granddaughter was killed in the Aurora Theater shooting.

Throughout Jean's career, she loved pediatric nursing because "children get well". She enjoyed working at Children's Hospital, Dr. Strain's office, as a school nurse at Manual High School, and a head nurse at St. Luke's Hospital. Later, she became a nurse's instructor specializing in the area of nutrition at the Emily Griffith School and was promoted to a school administrator.

One of Jean and Don's greatest pleasures was socializing with their circle of friends and traveling both stateside and overseas. They traveled to Africa on a number of occasions where they visited Gregg, their oldest son, a petroleum engineer. Jean volunteered at Most Precious Blood Church, enjoyed reading and her book club. She attended professional nursing lectures, and rarely had any spare time due to her commitment to babysitting the grandchildren and filling in where needed. Jean and Don had a large influence on their grandchildren because of the amount of time they spent with them. She claimed, "it was the best time of her life". Above all, Jean championed motherhood which came to her so naturally by always putting her family first. She was humble to a fault, and showed a great depth of character and wisdom throughout her life. She is deeply loved by her family and we will greatly miss her gentle spirit, and the loving care she provided to all of us.
