Jedeane R.
Cone
November 14, 1935 – January 3, 2026
Jedeane Reeves Lacy Macdonald Cone passed away on January 3, 2026. Born in Muskogee, OK.
She attended Oklahoma State University where she was one of the first women editors of the O'Colly (formerly the Daily O'Collegian) in 1957. In 1958, she married Henry Lacy and moved to Denver, where, in 1964, she became a pioneer computer programmer at Cahner's Publishing Co. Jedeane loved the challenges of writing programs in Basic Assembly Language for a computer with only 16,000 bytes of memory; she even loved the punch cards.
Though she knew nothing about nursing, Jedeane served on the board of directors of the Denver Visiting Nurse Association for 20 years, with one term as President. She was instrumental in starting a child-care center that supported underserved children and families in the Metro Denver area. In her retirement Jedan was an avid writer of historical fiction, mystery, and young adult short stories and novels. She was very active in the Colorado writing community.
Jedeane believed in accepting all invitations. Which was clearly exemplified by her constantly growing community of friends, as well as her willingness to say "YES" to three marriages. In her early twenties, she married Henry Lacy for love. A brilliant architect, who died too young.
Then she married Ranald Macdonald because he was smart, witty, and made her laugh. He died from a traumatic fall. "A 72-year-old English major from Yale has no business climbing trees." she was reported to say.
For her third marriage, she and Leo Cone (a three time widower himself) said "What the heck? Let's marry for money! It will make a great story!" Leo and Jedean enjoyed traveling, the theater, but most importantly a close friendship. In the words of Jedeane, "We had a wonderful time. Oh, yes. A wonderful time."
Jedeane is survived by her son Reeves Macdonald and his wife, Meghan, and two grandchildren, Emmett Dean and Harper Abbott, as well as her stepchildren , their children and grandchildren, Ran Macdonald, Jacksonville, FL, Pam Macdonald, LaVeta, CO, Harold Macdonald, Denver,m CO, and Ailsa and Mark McMenemy, Newton, MA plus step-grandchildren Hunter and Hobie Hallihan and Clinna Macdonald and her children Paxton and Athen.
A memorial service will be held at Ascension Episcopal Church, 600 Gilpin St. Denver, CO 80218 on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 3:00 PM.
Donations may be made on behalf of Jedeane to: The St. Francis Center , 2323 Curtis, Denver, CO 80205, National Public Radio or The Downtown Denver Expeditionary School, 1860 Lincoln St 1st floor, Denver, CO 80203
