Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jill Holmquist Jones. Born in Rockford, Illinois, she lived in the Swedish part of town and was the second of four children. She went to college at Duke University and law school at the University of Arizona. Jill specialized in contract law and worked for Martin Marietta, Great West Life, Intel, and Avago.

In addition to her family and friends, her loves in life were traveling, the outdoors, reading, and mentoring youth. She became hooked on traveling when she received a scholarship at the age of 17 to study in Germany before her freshman year of college. She attended the University of Freiburg, Germany for a junior year abroad. After she was married, her fluency in German and knowledge of the culture aided the family to live in a small German village near the U.S. Army Hospital in Landstuhl. While living in Germany, she traveled throughout Europe and continued to travel there after moving back to the United States.

Upon return to Arizona from Europe, she started law school but kept up her volunteer work with the girls' schools and Junior League. In Tucson she made many lasting friendships. When her family moved to Colorado, she passed the Colorado Bar while actively keeping her Arizona Bar license. In the Knolls neighborhood, she loved her walking group and lifelong friends. Jill hiked many 14ers, skied, floated through the Grand Canyon, and kayaked through Mexico. A voracious reader, no copy of the New Yorker went unread. She mentored many young people in the legal field, hosted foreign exchange students, and provided pro bono services to Somali Lost Boys in Arizona.

She is survived by daughters Dana Brimmer (Philip), Kristin Pichler, and Ann-Britt Jones (Sam); grandchildren Isabel, Pierce, Dalton, Anja, and Freja; her brother John Holmquist (Beth); her sisters Joan Smith and Julia Bergren; and her nieces and nephews, Julie Randall, Ethan Knight, Kristin Holmquist, and Karen Holmquist. She was predeceased by her parents C. John and Beth W. Holmquist.

A memorial service will be held Monday, May 11, 2026 at 11:00am at Saint John's Cathedral, 1350 N. Washington, Denver, Colorado 80203.

In lieu flowers, the family kindly asks donations be made to the First Book Organization in her name.
