John Rushing Grant (68), died peacefully in Denver, CO after a brief battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Born the only child of William (Bill) Ray Grant and Millicent (Millie) McAndries Grant in Denver, CO on May 6, 1955. He spent his childhood summers and winters in the mountains of Colorado, always content when surrounded by nature. After graduating from East High school as a senior member of the school's chapter of the Young Republicans in 1973.
John made his way to Dartmouth, where he spent four years participating in activities of which the Young Republicans would not have approved. Upon his graduation from Dartmouth, he traveled for a few years, including to London, England, where he met Lisa Wills. He suggested Lisa attend college in Santa Barbara, CA, where he just happened to live, and then, unexpectedly for both, proposed marriage a few weeks after she arrived. While their marriage lasted only ten years, it produced two children, Christopher Drake Grant (1984) and Alexander Mark Grant (1988).
Professionally, John spent more than twenty years in the entertainment business, working as a production assistant, film buyer, film seller, transportation specialist, post-production coordinator, producer, and much more. Upon moving to Ojai, CA in 1998, He worked at local libraries, theaters, bookstores, and ran his own transportation company. His final move to his hometown of Denver in 2019, returned him to the state he always considered home.
John was a lover of all arts and could always be found with a new book or an article about an exhibition he hoped to attend. He was happiest in service to others and his cheery disposition and amiable personality were noticed and appreciated by all.
He is survived by his sons, Christopher (Kim) and Alexander (Laura), grandson Isaac, his former wife Lisa, all of Charlottesville, VA, and numerous cousins throughout the US.
In honor of John, a memorial service will be held Monday, July 24, 2023, 1:00pm, at Saint John's Cathedral, 1350 N Washington St, Denver, CO 80203.
