John Edwin Gurley of Lakewood, CO passed away June 27, 2026 at age 81. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Alice and Edwin Gurley, and grew up in several states before graduating from Denver East High School in 1963. John was a Vietnam era veteran of the U S Air Force (1964-1968), where he became an accomplished photographer and photographic processing specialist. He demonstrated those skills and aptitudes in both his military and civilian careers.

John was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for “exceptionally meritorious service as a still photographer on a Vietnam assignment while assigned to the 13th Air Force Directorate of Information.” Later in life, he also enjoyed avocations with classic vehicles and firearms.

John is survived by his son, Matthew (Heather), grandson, Devin, both in Florida and brother, Jim (Denise) of Lakewood, CO.

He was laid to rest with military honors at Fort Logan National Cemetery. His military service was always very important to him throughout his life.
