Obituary

John Harrison Santos, beloved son, brother, family member and friend, passed away on August 10th, 2025.

John was named for his maternal grandfather, a World War II hero, and Harrison (for George Harrison), proved to be an apt choice for his middle name, as John grew to be an accomplished musician. John was a force of nature and always kept his parents and siblings on their toes, like the time he decided to take his hermit crabs to bed with him and could not find them in the morning. He was master of voices and faces that would send anyone around him into peals of laughter, and an impressive wordsmith as well.

He felt deeply and would defend those who he felt were wronged to the end. He secretly learned to play his mom's favorite song, Goin to California, on guitar to surprise her on her 50th birthday. An avid Denver Broncos fan, he was unparalleled in his knowledge of football and loved watching with his dad and brother and crushing them in their fantasy football league. He was immensely proud of his sister who is about to begin her college career.

His religion was nature, whether it be hiking in the Colorado Rockies or fishing his favorite lakes in Michigan with his uncles, aunts and cousins. He was a self proclaimed "blueberry enthusiast", and loved his cats beyond measure. His musical tastes ran from Rock to Blues to Metal, and he was a skillful jazz percussionist, with Wynton Marsalis himself dubbing John "Peanut Butter". A highlight of his musical career was playing the Winterpark Blues Festival with his band, Supertonic, and being recruited to play in Memphis. We know that as time goes on, our laughter will outweigh our tears, just as he would have wanted.
