John D.
Sanidas, Md
January 29, 1931 – December 18, 2024
"On December 18, 2024, Dr. John D. Sanidas M.D., departed this world after nearly 94 years of life. He was an interesting and complex individual, highly skilled in the medical arts which defined his life. His greatest joy in life was seeing his grand-children succeed and always being there to be supportive as much as he was able, especially in the later years of his life.
Born on January 29, 1931 in New Bedford, Massachusetts, to parents Dionysios Sanidas and Vassiliki Sanidas (nee Katsirubas), John Sanidas grew up with his brother Dennis (deceased) and his sister Jane. He is survived by his sons, Matthew and Oliver, their spouses Mia and Shauna, and his grandchildren, Madison, Alexander, Luke, Brooks, Ella, and his former spouse, Frieda.
John Sanidas graduated from New Bedford High School in 1948 and went on to college attending Providence College in Rhode Island where he graduated with a B.S degree in Biology in 1952. He went on to medical school in Belgium, culminating in 1959 when he received his medical degree from the University of Louvain School of Medicine, Louvain, Belgium. Following medical school, he went on to have a series of residencies starting in Pittsburgh, PA in internal medicine and general surgery and then in general surgery in Grand Junction and Denver Colorado. Following two years of surgical fellowships in Grand Junction, he opened his own medical practice in Denver, Colorado in 1966 and practiced medicine primarily in the area of general surgery. He served as Chief of Surgery at Mercy Hospital from 1972 - 1974 and then again at North Suburban Medical Center from 1980 - 1986. He maintained a solo practice in surgery until 1995. Later in his practice, he practiced geriatric medicine and then at the end of his medical practice, in the area of occupational medicine. In 2019, he retired from the practice of medicine and became a part-time, independent medical examiner.
Throughout his life, John Sanidas was also involved in acting and modeling. He served as Noonday Doctor for KOA (later KCNC) in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He often auditioned for commercials and voice-over work as a hobby but also relished opportunities to meet and take care of celebrities who frequented Denver over the years.
He was also a supporter of local theater and enjoyed watching plays and other artistic events throughout the course of his life. He was a skilled piano player who could play songs by heart. A lifelong movie-lover, he never missed Hollywood's biggest productions and also was known to frequent lower budget romps as well. He loved to read during his free time. Apart from always encouraging his grandchildren to massage their heads (so they would not go bald), he never stopped learning and was always on the cusp of new technology particularly in the field of surgery.
John Sanidas will be missed and his entire family can only wish him eternal peace and happiness."
