Joe passed away peacefully on July 26, 2018, in Lakewood, CO.  He was born on November 28, 1928, in Kansas City, Missouri. After serving in World War II and the Korean War, he found himself in Denver recovering at the Fitzsimons Army Medical Center where he met and fell in love with Joan Markey (O'Connell). The two stayed in Denver, and Joe became an entrepreneur running several successful businesses while raising five children. After Joan's passing in 2000, Joe found a new calling in Facebook.  At the time of his passing, Joe had over 1,400 friends on Facebook who provided him with a sense of community and enriched his life immensely.

Joe was proceeded in death by his wife Joan, and eldest son Michael O'Connell (Serena Ferrin).  He is survived by sons Kelly O'Connell (Susan O'Connell), Casey O'Connell (Debi O'Connell), daughters Sherri Montagne (Mike Montagne) and Shannon O'Connell (LeAnn Anderson) and by grandchildren Ian Carter-O'Connell, Bridgette Ferrin-O'Connell, Brandi Ferrin-O'Connell, Leigh Perry, Jill Bartlett, Katie O'Connell, Makayla Montagne, Ryan Montagne, Hunter O'Connell, Chase O'Connell and great-grandson Alex Perry.

A celebration of Joe's life will be held on August 6, 2018, at 1:00 pm at Mile Hi Church 9077 W. Alameda Ave, Lakewood, CO 80226 .
