Obituary

Joyce Woodruff Rogers Green was born in Gorgus, Alabama, the second child of Alfred and Carrie Rogers. Because her father, in his work as an engineer, was transferred on an almost yearly basis throughout the U.S., she and her parents, older sister Carolyn, and younger brother Douglas became quite adept at picking up roots and starting over in the new communities they were to call home. This experience gave her a unique opportunity to observe and interact with a diversity of people throughout the nation.

Joyce attended the University of Houston and graduated with a degree in English Literature as well as a teaching certificate. It was there that she met the love of her life, Roger LaRue Green, who she married in 1956. They raised three sons, Randy, Austin, and Eric and lived in three communities in Montana and one on the western slope of Colorado before moving to the Denver Metro area. Joyce served as an elementary school teacher and librarian for many years.

Joyce was a passionate reader - she could almost always be found with a book in her hands - and especially loved poetry; Emily Dickinson was one of her favorites. She was talented at sewing and especially liked to make guilts for others. She enjoyed traveling, camping in the Rockies, playing board games and puzzles, and spending time with her two grandsons, Sean and Brandon. She had a quiet manner, quick wit, and contagious giggle.

She will be missed.
