Karen Anne Young, peacefully left this world on Tuesday, March 7, 2023. She was born October 25, 1939, in Detroit to Clarence and Alice Schubach. She was the youngest of five girls and loved being with her sisters.
She grew up in Detroit, and met and married the love of her life, William Young, when she was 18 and he was 20. They celebrated 63 years of marriage before William passed away in 2020.
Karen earned her Bachelor's degree from Michigan State University and taught in Lansing and then at Frost Junior High School in Livonia, Michigan, until they moved to Colorado in the Fall of 1977. She went on to earn her Masters Degree from Colorado State University. She taught English and Reading at Prairie Middle School in the Cherry Creek School District, and finished her last five years of her teaching career at Prep Middle School.
In the words of a friend "Karen was the smartest, most resourceful, and adventurous person in my life."
Karen's daughters inherited her love of reading and curiosity of all things nature.
She is survived by daughters Catherine Tangredi, Sarah (Patrick) Hegarty, and Kristin (Bryan) Gwyn. Additionally, she will be missed by Grandchildren Mary, Eleanor, Lauren, Fiona, Lexie and William and Great Grandbaby Emrys.
She will be met in heaven by her loving husband, parents, beloved sisters Ruth and Thelma, and Grandsons Jack and Hunter.
The family will be having a private memorial service.
