Kent L.
Talmage-Bowers
Jul 27, 1948 — Sep 26, 2021
Denver
Kent Talmage-Bowers (Bowers) passed away at home on the afternoon of September 26, 2021. He was released from his suffering from Bulbar Palsy/ALS, a condition that took him in seven short months. Kent was born in 1948 and was a Colorado native and a resident of Denver, Colorado. He received his undergraduate degree from Colgate University and a Master's degree from Brown University.
Kent was a teacher for almost fifty years. He taught at Northglenn High School from 1972 until 2001. After a few short months of retirement, he missed teaching so much that he became an adjunct teacher in humanities and literature. He spent most of the remaining years of his life teaching at the Community College of Aurora where he was Adjunct Teacher of the Year in 2017 and where he taught until May of 2020. He was so very sad to stop teaching with the advent of Covid-19, but could not mesh his unique and interactive teaching style with the constraints of on-line teaching.
He was also a fine artist who learned how to do etchings in 1976 and proceeded to create hundreds of works of copper plate, dry point, aquatint and solar etchings. In 2014, he was commissioned to draw a series of drawings for the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs, where it is proudly displayed permanently at the Hotel. His work has been presented in numerous galleries in Colorado towns and he has been represented for nearly twenty years by the Hayden-Hays Gallery at the Broadmoor. He taught himself to oil paint in the last five years of his life and was a prolific expressionist and modern artist. He went on numerous solo art retreats in New Mexico and California, where he often created one painting a day. He travelled extensively in Europe where he gathered inspiration for many of his works of art. Kent was also a photographer, writer and poet and wrote a collection of travel journals, illustrated poetry books and one self-published work of historical fiction.
Kent was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was married for forty-four years to his wife, Marilyn. They have two daughters, Kaitlyn Gray and Madigan Talmage-Bowers. He adored his four grandchildren, Ruby Gray (5), Oliver Tumilowicz (5), Juniper Gray (3) and Evelyn Tumilowicz (2). He enjoyed spending time with his wonderful sons-in-law, Nicholas Tumilowicz and Cole Gray. He leaves a devoted sister, Kathlynne (Bowers) Smith. He was predeceased by his mother, Jean Henderson Bowers and his father, Royce Lee Bowers.
He was a guide for the adoration of beauty in life, a legend as a teacher of humanities, an ardent traveler and a loyal friend to many. Donations in his name should be made to a museum or school of art of your choice.
