Obituary

Kevin Patrick McGrellis (31) passed away on March 20, 2022 in his adopted hometown of Denver, Colorado.  At the time of his death, Kevin was surrounded by his family, his dearest friends, and the healing energies of those who loved him and love his family from across the country.  Kevin was a deeply caring man, whose gentle soul and limitless kindness was paralleled only by his sharp wit, his generosity of spirit, his keen intelligence, and his impish Irish charm. His generosity was exemplified by the final and ultimate act of kindness of his life – the donation of his organs upon his passing.

Born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware, Kevin graduated from A.I. DuPont High School in 2008 and was a graduate of the University of Dayton, in Ohio (2012). He was an avid fan of music, he loved the beach, and he loved people.  When he was 22, Kevin became a Colorado Vincentian Volunteer, and spent a life-changing year responding to the needs of Denver's disenfranchised, including the elderly homeless, at-risk youth, and those mired in poverty.

Among Kevin's happiest times was his involvement at the world-renown Twist and Shout Record Store, where Kevin likely spent as much money as a customer as he earned as its manager.  But it was his participation in the Denver Gay Men's Chorus and its mission to empower audiences to foster acceptance and tolerance that truly gave him the roots to blossom in Denver.  Kevin loved both of his music communities with all of his heart.

Kevin was predeceased by his beloved Gram, Nyra Maguire.  He is survived by his mother, Nyra McGrellis, his grandparents Andrew and Diane McGrellis, his Aunt Ann, Uncle Andy and Aunt Shari, and their children Kelsey, Erin, Andrew, and Shane, as well as a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.  His memory will be cherished by his partners Michael Sattler and Kevin Ford, as well as his extensive chosen family of friends in Denver.

The family would like to especially acknowledge and thank the "core group" and the MICU team at the Denver Health Medical Center.
