Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Larry Clark, a loving father, devoted partner, and an example of resiliency to many.

Larry was born on April 16, 1951, in Canon City, Colorado, one of 12 children born to Lucille and Olin Clark. In his younger years he loved building and racing cars. Later in life Larry worked as a truck driver and specialized in hanging drywall.  He loved waterskiing and being on the water.

Larry began losing his sight in the early 2000s due to various health conditions. It was a challenging and difficult time for him. He moved from small town Hugo, Colorado to Denver where there were more services available for the blind. He attended the Guiding Eyes for the Blind School in New York where he acquired a seeing-eye dog Hunter and learned to navigate the world without vision. He attended the school for the blind in Denver to learn braille, how to use a cane, and how to be self-sufficient.

It was at the school for the blind where he met Dawnelle O'Brien. Dawnelle was also blind and the two hit it off instantly. Their love blossomed, and together they faced life's challenges with courage and grace. Larry became Dawnelle's pillar of support as she battled severe diabetes, demonstrating unwavering commitment and care until the very end.

In his later years Larry enjoyed listening to books on tape, NASCAR races and classic rock music. He built toy boxes and completed numerous improvements to their house despite his lack of sight. He loved working with his hands and spending time with Dawnelle on their patio during the warm Denver afternoons.

Larry was an ornery guy and could be quite stubborn when he was upset. He had an amazing memory, and often gave exact driving directions to friends and family who were driving him around the city on errands. He always seemed to know exactly where he was despite being blind. He talked frequently with his children and grandchildren on the phone and was extremely proud of their accomplishments.

Larry and Dawnelle passed away in separate incidents at St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood, Colorado, leaving behind a legacy of resilience and love. Larry is survived his daughter Elisa, Son Shawn, and grandchildren Nathan, Zack, and Jayde.

Larry's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and his spirit will continue to inspire us all.
