Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lorraine Rivera, our beloved angel on earth, who peacefully departed this world on September 13, 2024, in Englewood, Colorado. She was born on January 11, 1942, in Capulin, Colorado to Dorothy and Ralph Mondragon. She was a gift from God—a woman of rare beauty, deep kindness, and a heart that could hold the world.

Lorraine's life was one filled with love, and she gave it endlessly. She was the cherished wife of Henry (Julio) Rivera, who stood by her side for over six decades after they married on April 11, 1964. Their love story was a testament to unwavering devotion, built on laughter, hard work, and a shared life of simple joys. Together, they raised four children—Andy, Henry (Kiki), Tina, Karen, and their first grandson Andy Jr.--whom she adored beyond measure. Lorraine lived for her family, and nothing brought her greater joy than being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

A woman of unmatched strength and grace, Lorraine was the heart of every gathering. Her home, filled with the aroma of her incredible cooking, was a sanctuary of warmth. Her famous Mexican hamburgers, topped with her divine green chili, were legendary. Those lucky enough to taste her menudo understood it was more than a dish—it was a symbol of her love. And while her pantry was always stocked with sweets and snacks, it was her heart that was the most generous. No one ever left her home without a full belly and a take-home sack of goodies, a simple but profound reminder of her care.

Lorraine had an incredible work ethic, dedicating over 25 years to Denver Vital Records, but her truest passion lay in feeding and nurturing her loved ones. She and her husband ran successful pool halls, where patrons often came as much for her cooking as for the games. Beyond her culinary talents, she found joy in life's little pleasures—scratch tickets, crossword puzzles, and long nights at the casino playing slots, where her laughter could be heard well into the early hours. She never missed an episode of her favorite game shows or *Law and Order: SVU*, but above all, her greatest joy came from the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Though Lorraine was a quiet soul, when she spoke, her stories captivated those lucky enough to listen. She never judged, never gave up on anyone, and always saw the best in people. Her love for the small things—the things most of us forget—was a lesson in how to live a life full of gratitude. She cherished every smile, every kind word, and every moment of joy.

And oh, how she loved Elvis. Lorraine could sing every word to every song, her gentle hands clapping along to the beat. Her infectious smile lit up every room she entered, and it will forever light up the hearts of those who loved her.

Lorraine leaves behind a legacy of love that will endure for generations. She is survived by her loving husband, Henry, four children; Andy, Henry, Justina and Karen, grandchildren; Andy Jr Valdez (Danielle), Jennifer Rivera (Justin), Tara Rivera-Mendez (Emmanuel), Miriah Medina (Evan), Joesph Lopez, Nikki Baca (Isaiah), Merseyes Rivera, and Julian Rivera, great-grandchildren: Giovanni Valdez, Andilynn Valdez, Elizabeth Lopez, Camden Rivera, Skylin Medina, Isaiah Baca Jr., Aceyn Medina, Amias Cash, Zia Cash, and Josiah Baca, brothers, David Mondragon (Gerri) Ralph Mondragon, Pat Mondragon (Renee), sisters; Loretta Romero (Leandro) Dorothy Ramirez (Isidro), numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Andy Mondragon, Leo Mondragon, sister in laws; Priscilla Mondragon, Cynthia Mondragon.

Her absence is felt deeply, but her spirit remains with us—a beacon of kindness, generosity, and grace.

Though our hearts ache, we find solace in knowing that Heaven has gained the most beautiful angel, one who will forever watch over her loved ones. Lorraine Rivera will be remembered not just for what she did, but for the love she gave and the joy she spread. She was a rare soul, a true gift from God, and the world was better because she was in it.

May her sweet soul rest in eternal peace. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in her name.
