Obituary

Marcy Joann (Nyberg) Mattson lost her courageous battle with Metastatic Breast Cancer at age 61 at The Denver Hospice Care Center on December 14, 2024.  Marcy lived in and around the Denver, Colorado area most of her adult life with her husband of 27 years Steve Mattson and throughout her life remained in close proximity to her 3 surviving children Joshua (BreiAnn), Brianna (Tom) and Andrew (Kelsey). She was preceded in death by her parents Stewart and Joanna (Manninen) Nyberg along with her youngest son Jacob, and Jacob's dad Keith.

Marcy loved her family and is also survived by her 5 grandchildren (Emmilia, Paul, Jake, Sophia & Gunner) and through the years remained very close to her siblings (Russel (Cathy) Nyberg, John Nyberg, Lisa (Bart) Smith, Nicole (Jody) Scheller and Jeffrey Nyberg. Additionally, Marcy is survived by her brother & sister-in-law (Brian & Kristy Melodia) as well as many other close relatives, family & friends.

Marcy began her life's journey on July 23, 1963 in West Alice Wisconsin and lived in Wisconsin and Colorado at various points while growing up. Marcy had a variety of childhood interests and many fond memories which included Roller Skating at the Spirit Town Hall Building, baking bread on a wood stove along with other family meals, gardening and hanging out with her numerous siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles, friends and other close family members. Marcy had immaculate penmanship which she directly attributed to Daisy Palmquist an early mentor and favorite teacher.

Marcy attended beauty school early in her professional career and had many hobbies and interests including; quilting, sewing, cooking, and fishing. Marcy and Steve went to many concerts and other live entertainment events over the years including seeing Prince, The Eagles, U2, Santana, Elton John and one of her personal favorites, Tony Bennett (in Las Vegas). She also loved to travel & explore unique and interesting places throughout the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Europe.

Marcy had a real spirit of adventure and loved road trips and especially looked forward to "going home" to spend time with her family & friends. One of her all time personal favorite places to go to was Sanibel Island where she loved to spend hour upon hour collecting sea shells and hanging out with her sisters. During her time there she also went parasailing, snorkeling and worked at perfecting her margarita recipe.

Marcy was a beautiful person in all the right ways. She decided in her early 30's to become a Medical Assistant so she went back to school, received an Associates Degree and her MA certification then spend nearly 30 years working in a variety of clinical & private practice settings. During that time Marcy's patients just loved her and through trial and error created a number of patient tracking systems which many are still in use today.

Marcy was truly a special and unique human being, daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She became a role model for those who knew her well. Marcy will always remain the love of our lives and the light that guides our way forward. We love and miss you Marcy and look forward to the day we meet again.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring of 2025.
