Marian E.
Lyons
March 12, 1959 – December 16, 2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved sister and aunt Marian Elizabeth Lyons who passed away on the morning of December 16, 2024, at the age of 65 and was preceded in death by her husband David A. Lyons.
Marian was born on March 12, 1959, at Rose Hospital in Denver, Colorado to Virginia Kalbfus (deceased 2004) and Willis Vincent Carpenter (deceased 2022). She graduated from East High School and went on to obtain a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Rochester and a Master's of Science in computer science from the University of Denver. Marian married David A. Lyons in 1982 and they enjoyed many wonderful years together sharing a love of music and the outdoors and exploring Colorado's many hiking trails. After Dave passed away in 1999 following a long illness, Marian focused on her career, her extended family, and her many wonderful friends. Professionally she managed several complex, technical, multimillion dollar projects and was a mentor to many colleagues. Her leadership skills ensured that projects were well managed and completed on time, but her true gift was her ability to bring people together, build comradery, and assure that work was both meaningful and fun.
Marian was a planner and she made sure to maintain strong friendships with people she met throughout her life. She was often found scheduling a lunch or a dinner and was the glue that held many of these relationships together. Marian was also extremely creative, a side of her few got to appreciate. She made beautiful clothing, tackled home improvement projects with an artist's eye, and was the family jokester, often employing funny voices for videos she sent to her nieces and nephews. She was also very athletic and an avid mountain biker. Marian had a true appreciation for the outdoors and enjoyed spending time at her second home in Bailey, Colorado. In the summer when she was not out biking, she could be found in her hammock under her favorite tree reading a book and enjoying the sunshine.
Marian is survived by her sisters Catherine S. Carpenter and Carol R. Smith (Erik Smith), her brother Charles R. Carpenter (Nikki Carpenter), her half-sisters Stacy A. Carpenter (Justin Prochnow) and Kendra S. Carpenter (Brian Binge), and her many cherished nieces and nephews and great nephew.
a celebration of her life will be held Saturday, February 22, 2025 at 3:15pm at The Four Mile House, 715 S Forest St., Denver, Colorado. She will be laid to rest alongside her husband David at Fort Logan National Cemetery in a private ceremony.
