Mario B. Carrasco

On September 9, 2026, Mario Carrasco was called home to be with the Lord, leaving behind a family who loved him, including the center of his world, his children, William and Elin.

Mario is the son of Debbie Olguin and Anthony Carrasco. He grew up surrounded by grandparents, aunties, cousins and a family who gave him plenty of room to become exactly who he was—a spirited, incredibly intelligent, humorous, artistic kid, with a quick wit, and a personality all his own. Mario loved plants; he had a green thumb and grew everything you could think of. He had a comeback for everything, never held much back, and left his family with enough Mario'isms to last a lifetime.

Some of Mario’s sweetest childhood memories were made with his grandparents making tortillas with Grandma Mercy and riding the ditch banks with Grandpa Froilan while he made his rounds for the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy. Mario was proud that he knew those ditch banks so well he could find his way back to Los Lunas without ever taking a road. Mondays were spent with his Grandma Stephanie and Grandpa Victor, riding the four-wheeler, and eating KFC.

Mario grew up alongside his cousins in Belen. He and Joshua spent their childhood wrestling, building forts and treehouses, throwing dirt clods, and finding whatever trouble they could while eluding Grandpa Florian and giggling to no end.

He attended Rio Grande Elementary, graduated from Belen High School, and later attended the University of New Mexico, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in fine arts and a minor in CAD. Mario was exceptionally creative, and his artwork still hangs proudly on his mother’s walls. He was also an incredible cook, often cooking breakfast for his mother, Debbie. Those simple mornings together became moments she will always treasure.

Mario later moved from Los Lunas to Colorado with his son, William, and Courtney Jones, the mother of his children. In 2016, his daughter Elin was born bringing additional joy to his life. He built a life with his family in Colorado, raising kids, working hard, and remodeling their home. But of everything Mario loved and accomplished, nothing compared to William and Elin. He cooked for them, played Pokémon with them, coached William’s basketball team, watched the Nuggets with William, pickled onions with Elin, and always made time to pick them up from school. He poured himself into being their dad; Willian and Elin were his world.

BMX became a big part of Mario’s life when he was just 13 years old, when his dad, Anthony, bought him his first bike, a Haro. He and his friends rode throughout the state, taking their bikes—and their tricks—just about everywhere they probably weren’t supposed to. His love for BMX followed him to Denver and became part of his lasting community and friendships.

Mario also had an entrepreneurial spirit. He started his own company, ABQDNV. Another reflection of his independence, drive, and determination to create something of his own. His annual BMX event, Double Ditch is still talked about today within the BMX community.

Mario is survived by his children, William and Elin; Courtney, the mother of his children; his parents, Anthony and Debbie; his maternal grandparents, Froilan and Mercy; his paternal grandparents, Victor and Stephanie; his godparents, Femia and David; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He also leaves behind his BMX community—a group of friends who became family.

A memorial celebration will be held at The Calvary Chapel, Rio Grande Chapter, 19381 Hwy 314, in Belen, New Mexico 87002 on Friday, November 6, 2026 beginning at 9:00a.m. with a BMX procession. Services to follow.
