Marjorie L.
Rudolph
June 11, 1937 – December 8, 2024
Marjorie (Marge) Louise Rudolph passed away on December 8, 2024 at the age of 87.
Marge was born June 11, 1937 to Marjorie and Lamburtus Stegeman at Sibley Hospital in Washington, DC. The family lived in rural Silver Springs, Maryland where Marge's brother Matt joined the family. They moved to Hempstead, New York and eventually to Lakewood, Colorado where they settled in 1951.
Marge graduated from Lakewood High School in 1955 and Colorado Women's College in 1957. While still in high school Marge was introduced to Walt Rudolph by friends who sent him to Hestead's Drug Store to meet her. Walt and Marge credit their lifelong romance to Marge's mother who intervened to make sure Marge actually accepted the date when Walt called the first time. They married on June 2, 1957.
Walt and Marge raised their children Craig (1960) and Aimee (1965) in Lakewood, Colorado. Marge enjoyed a long career with the US Department of Interior beginning in the mid-1960's. Throughout her professional life she paved the way for other women joining the workforce. She was a mentor to several young women and took every opportunity to empower the women she worked with.
After Craig and Aimee were grown, Marge and Walt opened their home to five young people through international community service exchange programs. The "exchangees" as they became known are still part of Marge's extended family.
After retiring in January 1996 Marge turned to a life of service, volunteering with Walt in the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) for Disaster Relief. They responded to disasters around the US including Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The other joy of Marge's retirement years were the "Great Adventures" with her grandchildren Hannah, Jackson and Stephanie. This included seven trips across the country where, with Walt as chauffeur, Marge infused her passion for history and travel into her grandchildren.
Marge was an avid reader, cherished lifelong friendships, never stopped listening and giving meaningful advice to those in need and was strong in her faith.
Marge is survived by her husband Walt, brother Madison Stegeman; son Craig (Diane) Rudolph, daughter Aimee (Arnie) Kover, grandchildren Hannah Fitzgerald, Jackson (Braden) Lawson-Rudolph and Stephanie Rudolph, Exchange Families Nadine and Bart Molmans- Sapion their children Dries, Arno, and Bram, Tinna and Tuomas Lyly and their children Helena, and Miro. She is preceded in death by her parents Marjorie and Lamburtus Stegeman and daughter-in-law Cindy Powell-Rudolph.
Memorial service will be held Thursday, December 19, 2024 at 11:00am at Green Mountain United Methodist Church, 12755 W. Cedar Dr. Lakewood, CO 80228. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Food Bank of the Rockies or UMCOR in Marge's name.
