Mark A. Nachtigal, 72 of Denver, Colorado died May 12, 2025 after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Elk City, Oklahoma on March 3, 1953 to Harlow E. and Dema L. (Williams) Nachtigal. He attended school in Kimball, Nebraska and graduated high school in 1971. Mark earned his degree in architecture in 1975 from University of Nebraska. Following graduation, he moved to Denver where he worked at the Broker Restaurant and met many lifelong friends. He also met George and Ellie Caulkins and became their assistant in managing a home with 5 children. This job became much more than his career; they became his 2nd family.
He was instrumental in his work with the Unsinkables, Inc. Mark had a strong desire for the betterment of Downtown Denver and was presented with the People's Choice Award in 2002 for outstanding and dedicated services to the Capital Hill Community.
He was an animal lover, especially dogs, he enjoyed gardening and art. He was a master of "one liners" and his quirky way made him a "never to be forgotten" brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend!
Though Mark lived in Denver his entire adult life, he never lost his love for Kimball, Nebraska and the friends from there.
Mark leaves many to miss him, brother Dennis (Jo) Nachtigal of Kearney, NE; Niece Ashley McGee of Kearney, NE; Nephews, Jeff (Angie) of Rogers, AR; Scott Nachtigal of Kearney, NE; and Ross (Mattie) Nachtigal of Keenesburg, CO; along with their children, Alie, Kate and Abby Nachtigal, Ryan, Ben and Mackenzie McGee, Isabella and Sam Nachtigal and Sophie and Will Nachtigal. Also, Beth and Dr. Tom Svinarich, who were care givers and close friends to Mark for many years and Mark's second family, the Late George and Ellie Caulkins, George (Christina), John (Barbora), David, Mary (Karl) Kister, Max (Ramey) and their children. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mark's celebration of life will be held Friday, July 25, 2025 11:00 am at Church of the Ascension (Episcopal Church) 600 Gilpin Street Denver, CO 80218. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in his name.
