Obituary

Mary Viers White Ball passed away on August 16, 2023 in the company of her family at home, as desired. She was determined not to be a burden on anyone in the end, and her wishes were met.

Born Mary Viers White on December 14, 1930 in Buenos Aires, Argentina to her parents, Elijah Viers and Mary Pitman White. It was, by all accounts an exceedingly interesting life in South America. Her father was an adventurer and an entrepreneur who carved out an interesting life in Argentina. Mary's first language was Spanish, something she kept up throughout her life.

Events in Argentina in the 1940's caused Mary's father and mother to decide to move the family to Leesburg, VA. There Mary finished her schooling and went to work in Washington, DC as a model, something she was so well suited for. It was in Washington, DC where she met her lifelong partner Thomas F. Ball, Jr., a young U.S. Naval officer. After a short romance they were married in 1950.

Mary and Tom jumped into the life of serving and moved around the world living in Panama, Washington, DC, Hawaii, Illinois, Guam, and Maine. Mary loved her life! They raised their three sons, Thomas F. Ball, III, Stephen C. Ball, and David M. Ball, and daughter, Elizabeth Ball Driscoll (Izzy) bouncing from naval base to naval base. The life of a Naval family was a perfect fit for Mary.

Her life after Tom retired from the Navy was filled with good friends, family, residing in Virginia, South Carolina and finally Colorado, to be near her daughter. With her dear friend Cindy Thomas, Mary traveled the world sampling great food, delicious wines, and spectacular beaches. Her final move to Colorado to live with Izzy and John Driscoll was the perfect place for her to settle down.

Mary is survived by her brother Carter Turbeville White, three sons, one daughter, three daughters'- in law, one son-in-law, two granddaughters, five grandsons, three great-granddaughters, three great-grandsons, and one great-great grandson.

Mary will be interred in the Ball Burial Ground in Leesburg, VA next to her husband, Tom. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Mary Viers White Ball to The Denver Hospice either online at thedenverhospice.org or mailed to 8289 E. Lowry Blvd, Denver, CO 80230.
