Mary Shoup Gardner passed away peacefully on January 30, 2022. Born in 1933 in Colorado Springs, she was the daughter of Merrill and Dorothy Shoup and granddaughter of Oliver Shoup, governor of Colorado from 1919-1923.
She was preceded in death by her husband Glenn Gibson Gardner, whom she married in 1955 after graduating from Smith College. During her lifetime she enjoyed volunteering at the Denver Art Museum as a docent and working in the front office of the Aspen Times newspaper. She loved music, painting, gardening, and hiking in the Colorado mountains.
Mary was also preceded in death by her eldest son Robert (Beth) of Connecticut and is survived by Peter (Ann) of Aurora, CO and Elizabeth of Golden, CO. Her grandchildren include Paul Gardner (Cathy) of Portland, OR; Joseph Gardner of Denver CO, sister Nancy Young (B. J.) Oakland, Ca. She was preceded in death by Jack Gardner of Aurora, CO; David Gardner of Tucson, AZ; and Kit and Sarah Hager of Bellingham WA.
No services will be held. Donations in her name can be made to the Denver Art Museum , 100 W. 14th Ave Pkwy, Denver, CO 80204.
