Michael "Mike" passed away at home from Covid on November 12, 2021. He was born in Virginia on March 11,1965 to Mary Jeanne and Richard J Whalen. He was the second boy and youngest of eight children. He was not a shy child, he was loud and boisterous, always making sure everyone knew what he wanted. Mike went to Alameda High School, graduating in 1983. He knew most of Jefferson County as evidenced by his large parties while he was growing up.
Mike was an electrician. He loved his Detroit Redwings, motor racing and music. Tony Stewart and Simon Pagenaud were his favorite drivers. He could spend days at Red Rocks listening to Widespread Panic and other jam bands. He loved the Grateful Dead. Mike also loved South Park and aquariums, especially African cichlids. He also had oscars and even piranha, but the love of his life was his daughter Joslyn.
Michael is survived by his daughter Joslyn Whalen, Mary and Mitch Towe, Ginny Price-Ron Sobiek, Mary and Jim Petrelli, Patti Hope, Kay and Tim Rutherford, Barbara Whalen Penza and Tony Penza. Mike is also survived by his dog Bo, cat Midnight and many fish. Mike is preceded in death by his mom Mary Jeanne Whalen, dad Richard J Whalen, brother Rick Whalen, and brother-in-law Charlie Post.
