Obituary

Nadine Barnes Quigley died on March 15, 2023.  She was a resident of Lakewood, Colorado for many years.  No service will be held.

Nadine was born April 8, 1927, in Colorado to William and Naomi Barnes.  She married Robert Sedgley and later divorced.  She then married Robert Quigley, and sadly they also divorced.  Nadine was preceded in death by her parents, and her siblings, William Jr. and Aline Maxwell. There are several nieces and nephews, and many good friends to carry on her memory.

Nadine was a very strong woman.  Nadine was born during a time period when women were not likely to be able to succeed in "a man's world". Despite that, she went on to become a microbiologist, receiving a Master's Degree in the 1960's, and was just short of receiving her PhD.  In her 60's, Nadine won an age discrimination case against her employer, after they fired her due to her age before she was ready to retire.  Nadine then went on to work as a research microbiologist for the EPA and worked into her 70's.

Nadine was also part of a synchronized swim team that was successful enough to try out for the Olympics in the early 1960's, and she later became part of the National Ski Patrol in Colorado.  She loved to travel, eventually seeing most of the U.S. and several countries.  Many of those trips she took with her beloved mother, even into their 80's.  After retiring, Nadine started a business selling her own hand-made jewelry.  Nadine loved learning new things, and would always continue to look for ways to keep active and involved.
