Nancy Scott Angle was born on January 1, 1937, in Houston, Texas, and died on December 12, 2022, in Denver, Colorado. She was the daughter of Mildred Ruth (Matthews) Angle and William McCarrell Angle. She resided in Houston with her parents and older sister Georgia Elizabeth (Betsey), until she attended William Marsh Rice University in Houston, through her sophomore year. Nancy transferred to the University of Colorado, Boulder at the beginning of her junior year, accepted into the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She graduated in 1958, with an Undergraduate Degree in Distributed Studies .
Nancy married Arlin Hubka in 1958 and over the next six years they had four children; Michael in 1959, Timothy in 1960, Stephen in 1962, and Sharon in 1964. She was a devoted and loving mother, but also devoted to education, beginning her teaching career in 1960 with Adams County Public Schools, teaching math at several junior and senior high schools, part-time through 1971. Divorced in 1971, Nancy reverted back to her maiden name and began graduate school, establishing her collegiate career as Nancy Angle. After a brief marriage to Franz Roehmann, Nancy later wed Marshall Martin in 1984, remaining happily married until her death.
Nancy received her Graduate Degree in Math Education from the University of Colorado in 1974. She was a gifted and devoted teacher of Mathematics, highly regarded by her colleagues with a reputation as an excellent teacher. Recognized by her students for her knowledge and compassion for those who struggled with math, she subsequently designed a class focused on overcoming math anxiety. Nancy taught at University of Colorado, Denver Campus from 1973 to 1980. Continuing her education to obtain her doctorate degree, she took sabbatical for a year, then taught at Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado from 1981 to 1989. After moving to California, she taught briefly at Cal-Poly Pomona, Cal-State Fullerton and more extensively at Cerritos College in Norwalk, from 1989 to 1999. Nancy and Marshall moved back to Colorado in 2000, where she taught for Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, until her retirement in 2013.
As a strong advocate for women in math, Nancy was active in several professional organizations such as the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the Association of Women in Mathematics, and served as President of Women in Mathematics Education from 1983-1985. Recognized for her expertise in the field, she was often asked to speak at regional and national conferences on Mathematics, and also to review and edit multiple textbooks on the subject.
Having a heart for the underprivileged, Nancy also volunteered for several non-profit organizations over the years including church-based homeless programs in California, HomewardBound of the Grand Valley and Child and Migrant Services, Inc. in Colorado, and five years as a victim's advocate for the Mesa County Sheriff's Department.
Nancy was an active member of the Episcopal Church, including many years at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Denver, also serving on the Vestry there for several years. Later in life, she felt a higher calling to serve the church, and studied to become a Deacon of the Episcopal Diocese of Colorado. She was ordained in Denver in 2009 and served as Deacon at All Saints Episcopal Church in Battlement Mesa, Colorado and St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Grand Junction, retiring in 2017.
Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and was an avid player of bridge, gin rummy and cribbage. She enjoyed doing puzzles and playing games with her family and had a reputation with her grandchildren of being quite competitive. Family was very important to her and she strove to be a supportive wife, mother and grandmother, loving everyone unconditionally.
Nancy lived a good, long life and was blessed to be survived by her husband Marshall Martin of Grand Junction, her four children, Mike (and Elene) Hubka of Manhattan, Kansas, Tim (and Cathy) Hubka of Denver, Steve Hubka of Denver, and Sharon (and Dave) MacGregor of Englewood, Colorado. She was the proud grandmother of 11 grandchildren; Brett, Jeff (Mike), Ruth, Severin, Elizabeth, Luke (Tim), Nathan (Steve), Joel, Abigail, Rebecca and Hannah (Sharon). As well as four great-grandchildren; Emma, Reagan (Abigail), Harper and Hattie (Brett), and another on the way (Ruth). Also, numerous nieces and nephews and their extended families. Nancy was preceded in death by her sister, Betsey Badgett and daughter-in-law Betsy Willits (Steve's wife).
When asked how she wanted to be remembered, Nancy said, "As one who loved life, family and friends, knowledge and God". Having influenced so many others personally and professionally throughout her life, it is certain she will forever be remembered in this way.

Memorial service will be Saturday, January 7, 2022 at 1:00pm at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. 2201 Dexter St., Denver, CO, 80207. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Child & Migrant Services, Inc. or HomewardBound of the Grand Valley
