Nancy L.
(Burbank) Rick
September 1, 1943 – July 26, 2025
Nancy passed away peacefully on the morning of July 26, 2025. She was 81. Born September 1, 1943, in San Diego, California, she was the youngest of eight children and lived a life defined by love, service, and quiet strength.
At just 16, Nancy began her lifelong commitment to caring for others by studying dental assisting. Soon after graduation, she embarked on a 30-year career in the dental field, where she was known for her calm presence and kind heart, often offering rides to senior patients to and from their appointments.
Not long after graduating from her dental program, Nancy met Allan and together, they built a home centered on faith, family, and hospitality. Early in their marriage, they began attending Christian meetings in Los Angeles. This spiritual pursuit became foundational for them, eventually leading to a move to Denver, Colorado, where their faith community continued to grow and remain central to their lives.
Nancy and Allan had two daughters, Denise and Melissa, and later became foster parents, eventually adopting their son Daniel. Nancy poured her energy into her family, church, and community. She cared for her own mother at various points throughout her adult life, volunteered with children, mentored young adults, and opened her home to countless college students in need of a meal or a place to stay — sometimes for months or even years.
A lifelong learner, Nancy delighted in mastering new skills. She taught herself to play guitar, learned piano tunes, and sewed everything from curtains to clothing and costumes. A well used phrase of hers was "We don't need to buy it, we can make it!" She tended a vibrant garden, raised chickens and other creatures, and loved to cook. She also organized a small natural foods co-op that served a small group of local families. Hosting came naturally to her, and she was happiest when her home was full of guests gathered around the table.
Travel was another of Nancy's joys. She and Allan took countless road trips back to California and throughout the U.S., with visits to Canada and the United Kingdom. Later in life, they moved to Gainesville, Florida, and then Ocala, where they continued to serve in the church community.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Allan; her children Denise, Melissa, and Daniel; and her grandchildren Gretchen, Daniel, Adian, Ernest, and Teddy. She is also remembered with love by many extended family members and friends — many she thought of as her own daughters, sons, and grandchildren.
